1873. The children born in this family were

ter, who was reared by his family from birth.

Seaborn and Elmira reared their family on a
400 acre farm located in Stokes Co. The farm
was located about five miles west of
Stokesdale and 1 ˝ miles west of the joining of
Forsyth, Guilford, Stokes and Rockingham
counties. He was a strong supporter of Mt.
Carmel United Methodist Church, located near

children left Stokes County to start lives of
their own.

Amos, the youngest of the Dillon children
married Louise Mae Strong (b. April 29, 1903.
d. April 17, 1981) on Dec. 10, 1922 in Mar-
rtinsville, Virginia. They started their new life on
Sprague Street in Winston-Salem. During this
time two sons were born. Dermont Amos. b.
Sept. 9, 1923. d. Mar. 20, 1953 and Billy
Irving. B. July 6, 1925. Their third son, Jack
Allen was born Nov. 13, 1929, after the family
moved to Madison, thus completing the
family.

Amos started his business career in Win-
ston-Salem as a salesman for Gilmer Brothers
and Salem Motors, Inc. At that time Gilmer’s
handied Oldsmobile, Buick, Chrysler, Chev-
rolet, Hudson and Essex. It was a big concern
and Amos worked for six years in different
capacities. For over a year he was on the road
for Gilmer’s as their Oldsmobile representative
in Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina.
During the years he was with Gilmer’s, Amos
239 led the entire force in sales and for several
years was Sales Manager of the company..
In 1926 Mr. Dillon came to Madison and
started in business for himself as an agent for
Chevrolet.

Again in Nov. 1931, Amos returned to his
birthplace in Stokes County, this time with his
family. They lived on the Dillon farm for two
years before returning to Madison.

In 1933 Amos became associated with Gro-
gan Motors, Inc. He remained with them until
1937. During his association with Grogan
Motors, Inc., he made the “100 Car Club”
every year.

On May 1, 1937 the dreams of four men
materialized into W.D.S. Motor, Inc. with
the Oldsmobile dealership, James Jefferson
Webster, George Amos Dillon, Robert and
Clyde Smith. W.D.S. Motors, Inc. was opened
in a sheet-metal garage building adjacent to
the New Brick warehouse. This lot is now
occupied by the New Northwestern Bank build-
ing. A new W.D.S. Motors building was for-
mally opened on Oct. 5, 1940. Jack, the
youngest Dillon son, worked with his father in
this company for 16 years. Amos Dillon re-
mained a partner in this company until his
death on March 9, 1963.

Dermont Amos Dillon married Euphemia
Clemia Hatcher (Butch) (b. Aug 29, 1921) on
Feb. 10, 1945. Dermont entered the U.S.
Navy, January 16, 1941. Most of his career was
served in the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters
aboard the carriers, USS Roosevelt, USS Mid-
way, USS Coral Sea, USS Boxer, USS Prin-
ston, USS Ticonderoga, Dermont retired from
the U. S. Navy with the rank of AMS1-P1 on
August 1, 1960. Dermont died at Madison,
March 20, 1983.

Butch entered the WAVE Division of the
U.S. Navy on May 5, 1943 and was discharged
from the service as an Aviation Metalsmith 2nd
Class, on Nov. 15, 1945.

Billy Irving Dillon, Sr., married Mildred
Evander Bailey, (b. Aug 21, 1927. d. Sept
16, 1956) on March 1, 1946. Two sons were
born of this marriage. Billy Irving, Jr., b. Sept.
24, 1947 and Charles Amos, b. Sept. 18,
1949. Billy, Sr. entered the U. S. Navy May 5,
1944. While in service he served aboard the
ships, USS Columbia, USS Sarsfield in the
Asiatic and Pacific Theaters. He was dis-
charged as a Radioman 3rd Class on Oct. 15,
1947. Billy, Jr. Married Claudia Summers, b.
April 10, 1948, on Jan. 29, 1971. They have
two children, Billy Irving III, b. July 9, 1977
and Carrie Ann, b. Jan 13, 1980. Billy Jr.
graduated from Appalachian State University
in 1969 with a B. S. Degree in history. He
received his Master’s Degree in Education
from U. N. C. at Greensboro. He is presently
assistant principal at Patrick Co. High School
in Virginia. Charles, Sr. married Margaret Sue
Ammons, B. Oct. 24, 1957 on Aug. 2. 1980.

They have a son, Charles Amos, Jr. b. Jan
11, 1982. Charles Amos, Jr. b. Jan
11, 1982. Charles, Sr. graduated from Elon
College in 1975 with a B. S. Degree in Social
Science and History. He is presently employed
with Duke Power at the Belews Creek Steam
Station at Belews Creek, N.C.

Jack Allen, Sr. married Ida Doris Peay
(Dot), . b Nov. 2, 1931 on March 4, 1951. The

Jr., b. May 18, 1952, d. Feb. 6, 1968, Amy
Louise, b. Aug. 30, 1957, David Ashley, b.
Dec. 22, 1960.

Jack, Sr. graduated from Madison High
School in 1948 and Oak Ridge Military Institute
June, 1950. He entered the United States
Army, March 12, 1951. Jack served at Fort
Benning, Georgia with the 78th Engineer
Combat Battalion, as company clerk, until his
discharge on Aug. 23, 1952.
Amy graduated from Madison-Mayodan
High School in June, 1975. She attended
Rockingham Community College for two years
and at Rutledge College in Greensboro, N.C. for
two years.

David graduated from Madison-Mayodan
High School in June, 1979. He entered the
U.S. Navy on Sept. 25, 1979 and received his
boot training at the Great Lakes Naval Training
Center. David is presently stationed in Mis-
awa, Japan as Cryptologist with the Naval
security Group Activity. His Rank is E-5 (2nd
Class Petty Officer).
